Blogger Juice

Lately this is how breakfast has been looking like for me. No, I don't eat those one by one. Instead, I dump them all in the juicer and drink up.

Now, some say fruit juice has no nutritional value and is another vehicle for unwanted sugar. Me, I just like to think that I'm getting my dose of vitamins A and C, plus healthy antioxidants, especially when I don't really feel like eating any of the above. Drinking them is a different story. I usually toast a waffle and/or make scrambled eggs to go with this fruity concoction.

Anyway, I can't believe I'm on Day 26 of my 30-Day Blog Challenge. I'm wondering what's next for me and this blog. Here are some questions running through my head:

1) Should I change my blog's name since I'll be mostly away from New York this year? But then again, "the average age of the top 100 blogs listed at Technorati is 33.8 months," says Darren Rowse of Problogger. "Successful blogs don't happen overnight."

NyMinuteNow.com is only 16 months old. My first blog, Chocolate Soundboard, reached 52 months, until I turned it private when I moved to this blog address. So if I move again, I'll have to literally start from scratch to even make it past to NyMinuteNow's current Technorati ranking of... 551,435. Gasp!

2) Is there a blogging future for me, at least on a professional level? I've been doing this for almost six years now. Although in recent months, I've been more vigilant and diligent to post. Rowse also says it takes time and patience for one to call blogging his or her part-time and full-time job. Time, I am lucky to have at the moment. But patience? It's a work in progress. I do enjoy blogging so that's a good sign.

3) What will be my regular schedule once I'm finished with the 30-Day Blog Challenge? Right now, I am thinking of blogging on weekdays, and not having anything to do with the online world on weekends ("Tech-free Sundays," as I keep trying to convince my fiancé). I find that these days, I am more and more cooped up indoors, much to the chagrin of my waistline.

So how does one strike a balance between life in the world wide web and the real world? Or have the lines been blurred between the two, that these days, the "real world" is right where we are in cyberspace?

  1. Blogging future for you? I'm sure there is! It's not as easy as Darren Rowse makes it sound like, though. And I think the people who earn through blogging enough for them to do it professionally are handling a couple of blogs at a time. :)

I've been blogging since 1998, not professionally though, and changed domains through the years. If you want to change domains, it'll be easy to 301-redirect everything to a new one. SEO-wise, all your direct traffic, link juice, and rankings even, will be transferred to the new domain. You can even export your old posts. ;)

I'm not saying you change domains though (I like how there's NY in your URL), but 301-redirect is an option. ;)

Oh, and yay, thanks for the sharpie! :)

  2. Hi, Riz!

Oh, wow, thanks for the 'meaty' comment! You're right, I'm reading Darren Rowse's book and he mentioned in his early days, he was earning just a few dollars daily. And I'm still in the pennies stage! Well, I'm a bit late in the game in terms of monetizing the blog, and I don't want to get too much into it for this particular space since it's still a personal, online diary. So I'll most likely open up other blogs/sites, as I've recently started and apply what I'm learning. Bottomline is, it still has to be FUN overall! :)

Thanks for the tip re: 301-redirect. Does it work on Blogger or just Wordpress? Yes I actually love 'NyMinuteNow' but I just get fidgety sometimes :D

  3. You know what, good question. I haven't done any 301-redirects for blogger in the past. I just Googled it now though, and there are ways, but most of the stuff I saw are 301-ing from blogger to wordpress. ;)

I've seen a couple of interesting reads HERE and HERE.

I'm not sure though how attached you are to the Blogger system, and if you're willing to give it up for Wordpress. I haven't seen anything about 301-ing Blogger to Blogger, but if I find one, I'll let you know. ;)

  4. Considering how populated the WWW is, 551,435 is pretty far up! XD

I'm sure you have a future in professional blogging. It's a long and rocky road but I guess as long as you enjoy it~

"Or have the lines been blurred between the two, that these days, the "real world" is right where we are in cyberspace?"

Unfortunately, my "real world" social life (if it exists) pales in comparison to my social life in cyberspace. Lately I've been online less, but not because I'm finally having a life. :\ Hah.

  5. Ah! Alvin's going to laugh if he reads that. It's been a constant argument between us this whole Blogger vs. Wordpress thing. Obviously I'm more of a Blogger fan :D I'm just so used to how the page elements work and customizing them.

It's okay! I'll keep NyMinuteNow.com and in case I feel like moving in the future, it'll just be easier and less tedious to just get a new URL and start anew altogether. I see you did that with your older blog? But thanks so much for the tips! :)
